Connecting to HER from personal experience, both of mine and of my ex boyfriend's, i felt pinned, cornered by the gravity of the mind states i recognized. But Spike Jonze paints the weight of these colors in a chorus of pastels that humor and tread lightly, refusing to succumb to gravity's shove. Jonze's film explores and conflates the damages of broken marriages and relationships with the self harm of disconnection resulting from misleading, self defeating introversion, such as in extended video game, music listening and computer searching activities.
